^I saw a few bands react to this news. This makes me sad we are losing an active station The good news is, Active Rock still has a net increase in stations since the beginning of 2019. Here's the list of flips TO Active Rock:
Atlanta, GA Indianapolis, IN Jacksonville, FL Albuquerque, NM (second Active Rock station in the market)
Knoxville, TN Springfield, MA Toledo, OH Davenport/Moline, IA/IL Burlington, VT Fort Dodge, IA Macomb, IL
Here's the list of flips FROM Active Rock:
Worcester, MA Lubbock, TX Jonesboro, AR
That's a net gain of eight stations. Here's hoping the trend remains generally positive. What radio and record companies did to the Active Rock format in the 2010s was a sin.

It’s been a year since 99.1 WNNH flipped to a simulcast of 106.3 WFNQ, giving the “Frank FM” classic hits format full coverage of the Manchester-Nashua-Concord, NH market after 14 years of both stations simply rimshotting Manchester. And the flip worked wonders for the station, as it’s ratings have doubled over the last year (making it top 5 in the market).

I noticed that Active Rock radio has the number 1 between 1600-1700 spins. Are they losing stations or is it more of stations playing older hits more?

Alt 105.7 in Atlanta has flipped to Spanish. Yup, just today they changed to Z 105.7. I was very disappointed to hear the news even though they were victim to ClearChannel’s bad practices and stagnant playlists. Their last song played was Novocaine by The Unlikely Candidates. Atlanta is basically left without a station playing current alternative. They do have an alternative station (97.1 The River’s “The Other Side of the River”) which has a much more varied playlist but I noticed they don’t play much, if any current alternative. I’d say it’s mostly late 80s and early-mid 90s.

Alternative and AAA are also experiencing lower peak spins than last year. I figure it's a mixture of losing stations and reliance on older hits due to the lack of pop crossovers to draw in new listeners (even Alt has been lacking in crossovers lately, the only two last year were "Trampoline" and "Hey Look Ma, I Made It").

In the late 1990s to early 2000s, I don't think Alt was reliant on crossovers, and even crossovers were by bands who were Alt even if they became more popular on other formats. Korn, Limp Bizkit, Incubus, Creed, and The Offspring were successful on Alt and/or Active not because of crossovers. Alt stopped playing bands like Goo Goo Dolls who became CHR-Pop, Hot AC, AC. Red Hot Chili Peppers continued to succeed on Alt without any loud songs. Some bands became popular like Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Linkin Park. Nickelback and and 3 Doors Down went on to be dumped by Alt like Goo Goo Dolls. I don't remember if Alt played Vertical Horizon's "Everything You Want." Staind's "It's Been Awhile" was Number 1 on rock formats for a long time. It crossed over, but Staind was relying on a pop audience. Green Day's "Minority" got played on Alternative before the next album, "American Idiot," was very popular. Everclear had the albums with titles like "Songs From An American Movie, Volume 1" and Songs From An American Movie, Volume 2," with one album having "Father Of Mine" and the next album having "Wonderful." No Doubt made "Return Of Saturn." Tool had "Schism" along with side project A Perfect Circle, and Stone Sour (a side project of Slipknot) succeeded on rock formats with the ballad "Bother."
The Billboard Hot 100 required songs without CD singles (which were most songs) to be in the Top 75 of Hot 100 Airplay in order to be eligible. The rock formats play their top currents less than CHR-Pop, CHR-Rhythmic, and Urban, so it was hard for rock hits to make the Hot 100.

KDLW-FM Flips REGIONAL MEXICAN
KDLW-FM Albuquerque (106.3 FM) From CHR To Regional Mexican
Original Report 5/4: Vanguard Media has dropped the CHR format on “Z106.3” KDLW Los Lunas/Albuquerque and is currently stunting with Spanish language movie and television clips.
Interspliced within the clips are messages from new Program Director Pamela Vargas promoting the relaunch of the station on Tuesday, May 5 at 7:00am as Regional Mexican “Zeta 106.3“.
The CHR format that had been on 106.3 has bounced around multiple owners, frequencies and brands since launching as Rhythmmic CHR “Wild 97.7” in 2007. It would become “OMG Radio” in 2009, move to 106.7 in 2011 then to 106.3 in 2013 under the now former “Z106.3” identity. The flip leaves Cumulus Media’s “93.3 The Q” KOBQ as the only Mainstream CHR in Albuquerque.

Max Media flipped Hip Hop “Flo 107.1” KFCO Bennett/Denver CO to CHR “Hot 107.1” at 3pm today. The move takes KFCO out of direct format competition with Entercom’s “KS 107.5” KQKS and up against iHeartMedia CHR “95.7 The Party” KPTT. Positioned as “Denver’s New Hit Music”, the station is debuting its new format by going commercial free through Memorial Day Weekend. Via: RadioInsight

with the Covid 19 virus impacting radio listening and slowing down the charts i am wondering if it has had an impact on ratings for different formats and the amount of stations for them.

So far this year, the following changes have been made in Jackson, Mississippi radio. February: WJXN flipped from classic hip-hop to adult hits ( Jack FM...for the second time). June: WONG is forced off the air by a transmitter fire. July- WHJT-HD2 debuted with blues.
- WIIN flipped from blues to rhythmic oldies. The station even has a new FM translator: W271DF (102.1).
- WJMF-LP (a Franken FM) signed off, as required by the FCC. However, its format--classic hits--moved to WZQK.
- WZQK flipped from classic country to classic hits.
